E Track Ratchet Strap Enclosed Trailer Tie Downs made with Quality Webbing
Need security for your load? Tie it down with this 16 foot e track ratchet strap. The ratchet allows for a robust tightening/loosening system and the end piece is built especially for the E track installed on the walls or floor of your interior van or flatbed. This ratchet makes a great companion for loads consistently varying in size that need harnessing to avoiding shifting.
Our special color coding system helps you choose the right size strap for your load, and makes the different lengths easy to identify if you own some of each. Our 12 foot e-track straps come in yellow, this popular 16 footer in neutral grey, and our longest 20 foot e-track tie downs are blue. All E track tie down straps are 2 inches wide, although we carry 1 inch through 4 inch ratchet straps with various other end fittings.
These quality tie down straps won't be affected by freezing cold or blazing hot temperatures, and will not react like other enclosed trailer straps by tensing and shrinking. That is because they are made of firm polyester webbing, a reliable material that does not soak up moisture, making these straps rot, mold and mildew resistant. These 2 inch by 16 foot ratchet straps are truly built for protection against the wear and tear so you don't have to buy new ones every year.
The E Track Strap and its Working Load Limit
To decide which strap suits your load best, calculate your cargo capacity and what working load limit it will require. This will help you decide the quantity and make of straps you'll need. Be sure you are clear regarding break strength vs. working load limit. Assembly break strength of a tie down is determined by a factory test done on the end fittings to calculate their endurance levels. Webbing break strength is determined by applying force directly to the strap until it reaches its capacity and starts to break.
The assembly break strength of this entire 16 foot E track ratchet strap is 3,000 lbs., and the webbing break strength is 6,000 pounds. To calculate your working load limit (WLL), use the break strength of the weakest component (in this case, the assembly) and divide by the Federal Regulations required safety factor of 3. Dividing the webbing break strength by 3 gives you the working load limit of this E track ratchet strap: 1,000 pounds. With an E track strap inside a cargo trailer you are likely using the Indirect Tie Down method - where your tie down strap goes from the E track on your trailer walls, through or over the load and then connects back to the trailer. With indirect securement, your strap can keep 1,000 pounds of cargo tied down when the strap's spring fitting is locked into the E track, and your E track is affixed to the wall or floor.
E Track Trailer Accessories to Complement your Tie Down System
This weight limit is more than enough to accommodate most trailer loads, which is why E track straps are all 2" wide. Based on the size of your trailer and your cargo, a 12 foot, or 20 foot E track strap length may better suit your needs. Loads hauled on a flatbed truck are often much heavier, so DC Cargo Mall offers thicker 3 inch and 4 inch ratchet straps as well as tie down chain to handle these larger loads. We also offer E track anchor rings, load bars, and other accessories that make up a complete trailer tie down system.
How to Use this Ratcheting Tie Down Strap with the Spring E Fitting
Once you've found the perfect strap match to your load, sling it over your cargo and connect each end fitting into the provided holes of your e track. Built with exact measurements, this spring e end piece fits like a glove into your E track rail. Installing and removing is easy - pushing this piece into the crevice will elicit a satisfying click, and the tiny lever only needs a pull upwards for removal.
The ratchet handle on your strap allows you to adjust the size as needed. Pump the lever to tighten and pull on the strap to test its required immobility. If you need the strap to loosen, tug it upwards with a click and then slide the strap out as necessary. If you want your strap length to be even easier to adjust, try our E track straps with cam buckles instead. They are not as heftily built but will get the job done if you require a less aggressive tie down option.
In addition to strapping down freight to the floor of your trailer, e-track straps can help you secure loads up against your enclosed trailer wall as well.
